Education Path

There are many paths into the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration industry. You may find the best pathway is through your local union, or maybe going to a provincial college or private training provider. Depending on your province/territory, obtaining the required licenses might require an apprenticeship path. On the other hand, the engineering and design side would involve university courses. Engineers and designers sometimes begin as skilled trades people and then upgrade.

What follows are the HVACR education paths by province/territory that lead to a C of Q for gasfitter and refrigeration and air conditioning technician/mechanic. Note: Paths and requirements are subject to change. Always check with each province/territory’s certifying body web site.
